Aftermath of the War

The Allied leaders of their countries were preoccupied with how to end the war; they were also motivated by the visions of postwar Europe. The first one was the conference at Tehran. The leaders of the Grand Alliance met at Tehran decided the future course of the war. Their major tactical decision concerned the final assault on Germany. Churchill had wanted British and American forces to follow up their North African and Italian campaigns by an indirect attack on Germany. The Allied leaders agreed to a partition of postwar Germany, and the differences over questions like the frontiers of Poland were set aside. When the conference at Yalta came around, the German defeat was basically the conclusion of the war. Stalin was suspicious of the Western powers. He was eager to obtain economically important resources and strategic military positions. The conference of Yalta gave the opportunity to Roosevelt to ask the Soviets for help against the Japanese. Also the newly created United Nations was a concern or in other words a major concern for the US. The Grand Alliance leaders agreed that Germany had to surrender unconditionally and created four occupation zones in Germany. They also decided to set reparations for Germany like World War I, but at twenty billion dollars.

"Diplomatic Revolution"

Before World War II started, Hitler and Nazi Germany achieved diplomatic revolution. Due to the fact that Germany was demilitarized since World War I since they were “the cause of the war”, Hitler viewed Germany as a weak country. Since Hitler knew very well or was well aware of Great Britain and France of their losses and the costs of World War I. Because of these things, Hitler knew that Great Britain and France were trying to avoid another war. Hitler also knew that if he could act upon France he could do anything like removing the restrictions on Germany of the Treaty of Versailles. Hitler’s intentions were only to revise the unfair provisions of Versailles by peaceful means and achieve Germany’s rightful place among the European states.  He believed that he could break some of the provisions of the Treaty of Versailles without serious oppositions from Great Britain and France. Hitler announced the creation of a new air force and introduced a military draft that would expand Germany’s army. On the other hand, Britain started a policy of appeasement. Also, on the Treaty of Versailles, it clearly states that Germany was not allowed into Rhineland. Yet, knowing that Great Britain and France will not do anything, he decides to take his troops and demilitarize Rhineland. Doing these things gave him an opportunity to create alliances with other countries like Italy. Hitler achieved diplomatic revolution for Germany.

Overview of the War

World War II was a war between the Grand Alliance and the Axis.  Since Hitler already officially annulled the Treaty of Versailles, he used the strategy of Blitzkrieg on Denmark and Norway. Also, because of this invasion that Hitler has been doing, Mussolini came into the picture and declared war on France. On the other Britain has not yet been defeated. Ever since Winston Churchill took over seat of prime minister, Churchill was determined to guide Britain to an ultimate victory. While Churchill was thinking about this, Hitler comes in with the Luftwaffe and destroys the British air and naval bases, harbors, communication centers, and war industries. Because of this the British air force suffered critical losses. With Japan joining the Axis alliance, Japan decides to bomb Pearl Harbor with the unknown thought that no one would destroy US since it was isolated. With the bombing of Pearl Harbor, US declares war on Japan. US decides to enter the war creating the Grand Alliance with Britain and USSR. Also, the agreement between the Grand Alliance included the principle of unconditional surrender. The battle of Midway was the turning point of the war. During the last years of the war, the battle turned against Germany, Italy, and Japan. While the war continued on, US decides to launch their atomic bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki the main cities in Japan. Due to these atomic bombings, Japan surrenders unconditionally.

The Holocaust

The Holocaust was the most devastating event that happened during the World War II Era. Even though I was not in Germany or the European states during this time, I heard many tragic and heartbreaking stories of the concentration and death camps. To me, just hearing the words “concentration” and “death” scares me. Due to the fact that Hitler and the Nazis despised the Jews and the other minority that are the ideal race of Aryans, they were sent to the death camps. All Jews living in Europe were given a Star of David so that the Jews could be distinguished wherever they go. Hitler gave the responsibility of killing and getting rid of the Jews to Henrich Himmler and his SS organization. Killing the Jews, the job was called the Final Solution. Many innocent young and old Jews were sent to one of the most horrendous death/concentration camps which was the Auschwitz Death Camp. When they arrived at the camp, their valuables and belongings were taken away, and each person’s head were shaved off and the officers there engraved numbers and letters on their wrists. If there were young children and senior citizens that cannot work because of their age they were directly sent into gas chamber that only took seconds to kill them. These Jews were forced into labor daily almost twenty-four hours. Their main purpose was to dehumanize every single Jew there was. HOW EVIL!!!

My Life

Hello! My name is Erwin Rommel or known as the Desert Fox. I was born on November 17, 1891 in the city of Heidenheim in the kingdom of Wutterberg. I am the second child to Professor Erwin Rommel Senior and Helene von Luz.  I have two siblings: one brother and one sister. When I was 14, my friend and I built a full-scale glider that was able to fly short distances. During this time, I have always wondered if I should become an engineer for a lifetime. Instead, during my early teens, I joined the local infantry regiment as an officer cadent and was later sent to an officer to get my training going.  My father was disappointed in my decision because he thought I was making the wrong decision. When I graduated, I was commissioned as a lieutenant. I fought in World War I where many people started to notice who I am since I made the best strategies. After World War I, I wrote my war diaries into a book called Infanterie greift an (Infantry Attacks). This book became a highly regarded military textbook and sought the attention of Hitler. In World War I, I was a renowned officer and I was awarded the Pour le Merite for my exploits on the Italian front.

Later in World War II, I distinguished myself as a commander. But, I wonder how I got my legendary name of Desert Fox? I earned that name when my great leadership skills came out of the German and Italian forces of the North African campaign. That is how I earned the name of Desert Fox. By earning that name of Desert Fox comes from being the German Field Marshal of World War II. Also, I am known for one of the most skilled commanders of desert warfare. As a military commander, I have been hailed as a brilliant tactician and a competent strategist. Moving on, I later commanded the German forces against the Allied forces of the invasion in Normandy. After both world wars have ended, I became part of the conspiracy to kill Hitler. After the assassination plot for Hitler failed, I was brought to court and was expelled from the army by disgrace. Due to the fact that I was one of Hitler’s favorites, Hitler did not want to see me branded as a traitor, so he gave me another choice. My other choice: suicide. He would eliminate me quietly in trade of the protection for his family. If I choose suicide it would protect my family without getting executed. While, on the other hand, if I choose to not commit suicide my staff would be arrested and my family would suffer in front of my eyes which included their execution.  I would rather commit suicide than to see my family suffer to protect myself. Before committing suicide, I informed my family of what I am doing in order to keep them protected and safe. Hitler’s people came by with a cyanide pill.
